Description

Most national parks offer on-site shared volunteer accommodations. These living conditions are basic, but clean and comfortable. Most accommodations have electricity and running water, and communal washrooms. Meals are provided 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Spanish proficiency is not required, but volunteers should have a good grasp of the basics. A two week minimum program and maximum 6 weeks.

School group projects can be arranged and customized including group tour leader, airport transfers, project placement, meals/accommodations and sightseeing trips. Please inquire about our Spring break and summer vacation programs. Discounts apply for groups of 5 or more traveling together. We can accommodate any project length.

Program Includes:

On-site volunteer accommodations. Includes three meals a day. Meet and greet at the San Jose airport, in-country orientation and transport expenses to the project site. The project coordinator is available 24/7 in case of emergency, health-related or otherwise. They can assist in arranging sightseeing excursion after the volunteer program.

Highlights

Ideally situated between the Caribbean Ocean to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west, Costa Rica boosts various geography and climate zones from the pleasant interior to the tropical coast lines. Our volunteer placements allow you to work in the National Parks dotting the coast of the Caribbean region and also on the Pacific Coast.

North and South Caribbean Limon Region. This province boasts the highest percentage of national parks and reserves than any other region in Costa Rica.
Limon is about 3 hours drive from San Jose, on the shores of the Caribbean.
Limon is the capital of the Afro-Caribbean culture and boasts a Caribbean flavor.

North and Central Pacific Guanacaste Region. This province encompasses the entire north Pacific coast region of Costa Rica. This part of the country is the most visited, yet it is also one of the least populated. Know for the stunning beaches, endless coves and an abundance of marine life.

Qualifications

- Hard Work: 6 days a week, 6 to 10 hours a day, only for people committed to conservation of turtles. Minimum 2 weeks maximum 6 weeks, minimum Spanish is required.
- Proactive: Jump in and maintain a positive attitude.
- Patient: Life in your host country moves slower than one might be used to. Relax and enjoy the slow pace. Remember, not everything is as organized and predictable as life in the US or UK.
- Flexible: Plans change, roads get flooded, and electricity goes out. Realize that not everything goes as planned, but good intention is always there.
- Considerate: Respect those around you and be a reliable worker at the program site. Tell your host family if you will be late. Advise the Project Coordinator if you are sick and can not work.
- Respectful: Remember that the local people you are working with, side by side, do so with little or no salary. They do this work because they believe in it. There are times when you may not agree with or understand the organizations decisions or direction. Although your suggestions are always welcome, your faith, respect and consideration for their long term work and commitment is appreciated.
- Friendly: In order to truly help someone you must get to know them. Do not be afraid to make friends with the local people. Smile, wave and see how fast you are welcomed into the community.
- Tolerant: The food, the culture, the smells and the sounds will be unfamiliar to you at first. We recommend that you dive in and experience life head-on. You will be surprised at how quickly you will adapt.
