Orphan Care in Mozambique with All Out Africa
Location: Mozambique: Inhambane
Program Duration: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: 1st Monday of every month.
Description
The Orphan Care Project involves working in an orphanage on the edge of Inhambane town where poverty and HIV AIDS have left a large number of children orphaned and vulnerable. As a volunteer you will assist the care givers and other staff in looking after the children at the center. The aims of the orphanage are to provide orphaned and vulnerable children with basic shelter, para-parental guidance, food, care and education. Food is often grown in local gardens and some is donated. The centre is relatively well organised and is neat and clean and can accommodate approximately 150 children usually between the ages of 1 and 9 years. The children stay in quasy-family units of 10 children to one house mother or guardian. There is a pre-school and an attached primary school catering for the wider community. Volunteers are needed to assist the care givers, social workers, teachers and other staff in looking after the children.
