Get AMPED Abroad: Information Technology Volunteer in Ghana
Location: Ghana: Rural Areas
Program Duration: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Year round; first and third Monday of each month
Description
Technology is here to stay and it is evolving at a record pace. Knowledge of computers and commonly used software platforms is, therefore; a mandatory component for success in 21st century academic and professional environments.
The majority of schools in Ghana do not have computers nor the facilities needed for maintaining and teaching computer technology. Children from underprivileged backgrounds, who already have the deck stacked against them, would suffer yet another consequence of poverty were it not for programs offered by our IT Training project.
The IT Training project provides underprivileged Ghanian children a helping leg up in life through the introduction of computers and teaching of basic computer literacy skills.
AMPED volunteers may be assigned the following responsibilities:
* Providing children with an introduction to computers and their use;
* Teaching children basic computer skills - keyboarding, internet, and basic software applications;
* Assisting teachers with developing lessons plans that involve use of the computer; and
* Assisting with performing routine maintenance on the computers.
