Description
A school system is only as strong as its teachers and classroom infrastucture. Both of these crucial resources are overburdened at our partner school in Ghana. A staff of 15 teachers is challenged with the task of educating approximately 400 students. The school itself is constructed of crumbling cement and corrugated tin roof tops, and the only illumination is the sunlight that peeks through its small windows.
While enrollment has increased over the last few years, there are very few to no resources available to accommodate the rising student population. Teachers of all grade levels are desperately needed to help balance the workload among school staff, especially in the subjects of English and Math.
AMPED teaching volunteers may be assigned the following responsibilities:
* Teaching English, Math, and possibly other core subjects to children between the ages of 7 16 years;
* Assisting teachers with developing lesson plans;
* Helping the children with their homework; and
* Organizing constructive learning games and activities for the children.
