Description
This is an especially worthwhile project which provides an essential meal for underprivileged African school children along with educational assistance every day of the school year.
The aim of the project are simple -- 1 nutritious meal/per child/per school day.
You will be working at West Riding, a respectable Primary School near Cape Town, which caters for around 300 children from 5 - 13 years of age. The majority of children come from a variety of African countries including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Angola and the Congo. Nearly 100 of these children come to school every day without food as their parents are unable to afford this basic need.
As a volunteer, you have an opportunity to make an immediate and tangible difference to the lives of these children by ensuring they receive the food and energy they need to help them make the most of this positive educational environment. These children are hungry to learn, and with your help they will never learn to go hungry.
Preparing meals...
Your day will begin with a short drive to the school in the morning where you will work with your fellow volunteers to prepare a simple nutritious meal. No previous experience is required as menus and guidelines will be provided. For many of the children, this will be their first meal of the day.
Interacting with the children...
After a quick clean up in the kitchen, it's time to help out with classes in the school library where you can interact with the children and assist with reading help, activities and story telling to name but a few.
This project is funded directly from your volunteer fee, so whether you have only one week available, or would like to add some time at the school to another project, please consider these children and help us to make their school day the best it can be.
We promise you, this will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life...
