Description

At the daycare volunteers will greet the children when they arrive each morning. In the morning you can spend time planning and preparing for the craft sessions.You may also have the opportunity to teach the children the songs and exercise's by singing and dancing and introducing new nursery rhymes.

After lunch is the perfect time to introduce arts and crafts to the children. During this time you can teach the children new crafting techniques, and develop creative and engaging projects for them to complete. Because the center runs on limited funds it may be necessary to seek craft donations from local stores and businesses. The center also tries to recycle whenever possible so you will need to use your creativity in programming activities to make the best use possible of the supplies and donations on hand.

During this placement volunteers may also be asked to assist in cleaning the courtyard, writing assessments and helping check the children's homework.

Highlights

My Lord Jesus Cares Day Care is a grass-root independent project that was started by Mrs. Dinah Amoah. Upon conception, there were only six students attending the school, however due to rising demands, there are now over seventy-five nursery children that attend each day. The main reason this organization requires volunteers is because they are understaffed. There is currently four teachers and the headmistress, most of their time is spent managing the classrooms as opposed to teaching.

The staff at this daycare work very hard everyday and sometimes don't have the time to plan fun and engaging activities. Volunteers are needed to come to the day care and introduce educational and creative art projects for the children. Afternoons at the day care are sometimes unstructured as the teachers are busy cleaning up after lunch time, this creates a prime opportunity for a volunteer to lead creative art project time. Children at the day care love art time and will be beaming at the opportunity to create fun projects on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Volunteers should have a good background of working with children. You should be able to easily interact with staff members and parents. Volunteers should also be creative, and open to working with children who may not speak fluent English. It is also important to have ideas for fun and easy art projects that are possible to complete with limited resources.

Cost Include Description:

Upon arrival in country our staff will pick you up at the airport and return you to our Orientation Center for a safety briefing and general country orientation. For this program you are required to complete one - 4 weeks of language training and orientation which is included in the cost of the program. At the end of that week you will transfer to your placement to begin volunteering. Our staff are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require help of any kind.
