Description

During your placement as a Primary Workshop School Assistant, you will play a vital role in the organizations educational system. Volunteers will be asked to assist directly in the classrooms at the primary school where they will work. They will also help the teachers to develop and implement new learning activities in each of the levels taught.

Volunteers will also have the opportunity to work on special activities such as organizing a theatre project, creating art classes, developing hygiene education seminars, starting a skipping club or organizing a soccer tournament. You can build these special activities based on your own skill set and the needs of the school.

Another key aspect of the presence of a volunteer at this school is being a positive role model. At all times volunteers are expected to demonstrate respectful and kind behaviour and to act in a positive, enthusiastic and energetic manner.

At the moment CENIT is also requesting for volunteers who would be interested in working in the kitchen -- in order to help prepare food for the children. Daily 150 children eat at CENIT.

Highlights

The Primary Workshop School Program is an initiative run by CENIT that provides school aged children with stimulating and educational opportunities within a school setting. This program also aims to establish positive mentoring relationships with these neglected children and to assist them with immediate problems. These children, who range in age from nine to seventeen years old, come from families that work on the streets and fruit markets and who have often experienced neglect or abuse.

A very important enrichment to the children's futures is the opportunity to finish their studies. Many of these children who come to learn at CENIT could not do this in the past because of varying volatile situations. The children at this school are engaged in subjects such as Math, English, Languages, Social Studies, Science plus much more. All of the subjects are adapted to the students education levels.

The participation from volunteers is very important at this school. Volunteers are needed to promote values such as responsibility, honesty, organization, and hard work. In addition to that, volunteers can help to foster an environment that is safe and encouraging for the students, where they can learn and play with their peers instead of working with their parents in the markets or on the streets.
