Description
In rural Kenya, around 70% of people are living below the poverty line and access to proper sanitation, clean drinking water, healthcare and an education are often limited or non-existent. Based from Camp Kenya's original camp in the village of Makongeni, this trip gives those in the medical profession a chance to experience caring for people in a new and challenging environment. Camp Kenya has been working on various projects within Makongeni since 2003, including reconstructing and refurbishing school classrooms and facilities, sports development and several community outreach programmes with women and youth groups. In 2009 Camp Kenya forged a partnership with the Rafiki Kenia Foundation also based in Makongeni, to support various programmes including the improvement of public healthcare facilities.
