English Volunteers for Change in Costa Rica (EVOLC)

Barrio Escalante San Jose, Costa Rica

Description

Volunteers will live with host families in rural communities throughout the country for a period of 6 months to one year and will be responsible for teaching 20 hours of class time and 20 hours of preparation. Our program is unique in that we serve the tourism sector where there is an immediate need to learn English. Our teachers serve as community teachers for professionals from the tourism sector, such as hotels, various public institutions, restaurants, and local tourism organizations.

Highlights

Costa Rica English for Sustainable Tourism (CREST) emerged from President Oscar Arias' initiative, Costa Rica Multilingue, which seeks to improve the competitive environment of the country by increasing the number of English in Costa Rica. CREST was established in 2009 with the enthusiasm of 5 volunteers, but our goal is to have more than 300 volunteers in the first five years. CREST grows with the commitment of volunteers worldwide and the support of a wide range of national and international organizations.
