Description

ELI partners with two organizations in Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba that work to improve the lives of children. In the poorer suburbs of Rio, there is a community center that endeavors to keep kids off the streets by offering free classes, capacity building, and assistance with job placement as they get older. In downtown Rio, ELI volunteers work with a Family School that works to feed malnourished children and educate their families about balanced diets. In Curitiba, ELI volunteers work with a home that takes care of children after they have been removed from dangerous living conditions by the state. All three of these organizations are clean and well-run, but volunteers are needed to provide affection and support to kids who are wrestling with adult situations.

Highlights

Participants with children's programs live with a homestay family and have evenings and weekends free.

Qualifications

All volunteers have something to offer, and no specific education or experience is required. If volunteers have an interest in teaching art, sewing, music, sports, cooking or English there are placements specifically needing those skills.
