Description
Discover the secrets of the landlocked heart of South America. Behold the marvels of magically surreal salt flats, lofty cities perched on canyon sides and the juxtaposition of Amazonian and Andean landscapes. Bolivia has one of the most fascinating and varied cultures of the continent. The echoes of ancient civilizations resonate throughout the ruined cities, busy markets overflow with rainbow coloured textiles and chicken buses navigate their way along winding mountain roads. With such an abundance of experiences to offer, your time in Bolivia is sure to be unforgettable.
* What Does the Project Do?
The centre serves a growing community of 38,700 inhabitants in the northern zone of Cochabamba, most of whom are from low income backgrounds. The Health Centre concentrates on health promotion and disease prevention. The staff makes regular trips to surrounding communities and gives educational talks at schools. The Centre is the only one in Cochabamba that has a completely computerised patient database, thus providing the most efficient service in the region.
* What Will I be Doing?
In this project you will shadow doctors and/or make trips into surrounding communities to provide education on Chagas' disease, nutrition, sexual health, and other medical issues. Furthermore, there is an ongoing vaccination campaign in which you may participate. If you have no previous experience in healthcare, you will be able to help with the running of the centre or help with educational workshops.
