Description

Ghana is renowned for its friendly people, tremendous natural beauty, and fascinating culture, and you're sure to feel right at home in this wonderful country. Experience a true Ghanaian welcome from the children of Ghana, surrounded by the natural beauty of Africa, and truly integrate yourself into a friendly and hospitable culture. In your spare time you could swim in waterfalls, spot elephants, baboons, crocodiles, and antelope on the African plains, dance and socialise to the Ghanaian beats.

* What Will I Be Doing?

The Ghana Orphanage, Teaching and Community Health project is a fantastic opportunity for caring volunteers to make a great impact on the local community and really integrate themselves within Ghanaian culture. Volunteers should be ready and willing to get stuck in to the varied work, a flexible and positive approach is essential! Whichever projects you take part in you can be sure that the children and people you help will be extremely grateful for having someone there to support and care about them. Your work programme will usually run five days a week, mornings and afternoons, with evenings free to enjoy as you wish. Volunteers will have the opportunity to help in various areas within the local communities, depending on current need at the time of your project. Areas of work may include:

* Orphanage

Volunteers may help with caring for and teaching children living at the orphanage as well as others from the village who may visit for classes. Volunteers are instrumental in keeping the children engaged with games after school hours and helping with cooking and cleaning in the orphanage.

* Teaching

Volunteers may work in basic community schools, day care centres and the special school for the deaf helping out in the classroom and with any other aspects of school life. Please note that school and public holidays may affect the schedule so please check for the time of year in which you are taking part.

* Community health

Volunteers may help in assisting people with disabilities, working around the hospital, patient and customer care, Malaria and the need to keep our environments clean to avoid disease or even administration - basically a variety of different aspects required to keep the hospital or health centres running.
