Description

Join our Wildlife Rescue Centre Project in Sulawesi for a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget, as you discover this enchanting tropical world.

After your project don't forget to leave time to try out some world class diving off the sun-drenched beaches in order to witness an unbelievable variety of multi-coloured sea life. With the unspoilt beauty of the Togean Islands, the vibrant capital Makassar and its famous seafood, or hiking in Rantepao, it is always surprising that so many travellers overlook this gem.

* What Will I Be Doing?

The priority for volunteers will be improving the animals' living conditions. Volunteers will spend a significant amount of time preparing food and fresh drinking water for the animals, serving it to them and cleaning their enclosures. This includes a variety of ancillary jobs, such as cleaning food bowls, equipment and food preparation areas.

The centre accommodates many different species at various times such as Orangutans, gibbons, many species of macaques, the Javan Leopard, Sun Bears, an assortment of reptiles which include various species of turtle and crocodiles. Although we cannot guarantee all of these species will be in residence at the time of your stay. The centre operates a hands-off policy with regards to the animals, therefore the enclosures are set up so that they can be cleaned and the animals can be fed without any contact. Time is spent preparing enrichments for the animals and also giving tours to visiting tourists as well as assisting development of the education centre. Depending upon the number of volunteers and ongoing activities at the time, there will also be work in connection with building and upgrading the enclosures, usually involving a lot of digging and painting. The types and variety of duties will depend largely on the duration of stay of each volunteer and the number and skills of volunteers participating. Some of the work is also seasonal and dependent upon available resources on-site at the time.

There is a tree nursery at this project, to help restore the rainforest habitat for native wildlife, for which there may also be some volunteer duties when needed. This project is an unmissable chance to work in the front line of animal care and rehabilitation and to help combat the serious problem of illegal animal trade.
