Description
Home to some of the most magnificent and spectacular wildlife, ancient and mysterious tribal communities, vast expanses of savannah, tropical blue oceans and imposing mountain landscapes, Tanzania will surpass all expectations. Big game species roam the plains and gorges where early human skeletons lie undiscovered while Mount Kilimanjaro challenges all who behold her. The waters of the Indian Ocean caress the shores of Tanzania and hold a staggeringly diverse range of species, from curious invertebrates to gigantic whale sharks and manta rays gliding silently over the coral reefs.
* What Does the Project Do?
Join a local youth / arts / music oriented magazine as an intern to gain some great exposure to a small publishing firm which produces high quality Kiswahili magazines that are available to all Tanzanians. The focus is on community issues, music, arts and sports as well as producing additional corporate pages aimed at a slightly older market. The magazine needs visiting journalists, photographers, graphic designers and marketing people to help promote and develop it.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience in journalism and magazine design in a developing country and to develop an understanding of the process that goes into bringing an issue to publication.
* What Will I Be Doing?
Depending upon your skill set and experience your work schedule may vary and could either cover a number of areas and departments within the magazine, or alternatively could be more specialized in one area. One thing that you can be sure of is that your days will be interesting and varied and as with any small business there will be times when teamwork and an all hands on deck approach is what's needed to make things happen and meet those pressing deadlines!
