Description
You are not required to have any previous teaching experience to partake. You will be teaching children between the ages of 2-15 years and many will be orphans. The main subjects covered are English, mathematics, science and social studies. Your investment into the children's education will not only bring a smile to their faces, but will create a lasting constructive future for each child, their family and the society at large.
Some examples of the skills that you will develop during your time on the project include:
* The ability to motivate students to learn
* The ability to make critical observations
* Improved communication skills and the ability to pass this skill on to others
* Creativity, time management and organisational skills
* Hands-on experience of teaching and training
The sports coaching programme gives impoverished children from local villages the chance to learn and play sports, in a safe environment. This develops the children's talents, not only teaching them valuable skills in teamwork and communication, but giving them a better chance for a successful future. Volunteers may get the opportunity to take charge and teach a number of sports, including football, volleyball and netball, establishing teams and developing relationships with the children, building confidence and team spirit. You are encouraged to be as interactive and engaging as possible; helping to organise local matches between teams, set up tournaments, or even start up your own sports club to introduce something new to the community. Your typical work day will begin with teaching and end with sports coaching, although a degree of flexibility is required as there may be some days when you focus only on one aspect of the project. This project requires a certain amount of initiative, but with amazing rewards.
