Description

On the coastline of Mauritius, located on the Southeast coast of Africa, Green Turtles are an endangered species. Your work as a volunteer for this project helps to educate people (other volunteers and locals) about the turtles and the reefs, as well as how protection of both can be improved. Particicipants will follow the Green Turtles and gather and then analyze data. There will also be dives in Blue Bay during which notes about the state of the reefs will be done. Removal of "sea spiders", which are destroying the reefs, may also be done.

Green Turtles in Mauritius lay their eggs in January and February. The eggs normally hatch in March. Volunteers during these times will also watchover the hatchings (overnight or in the morning). In the afternoon there will be other activities, including data collection regarding the reefs and other flora and fauna.

Highlights

Participants may dive in Blue Bay. During nesting and hatching season, participants will watch over the hatchings.
