Description
You will be based in Santa Marta, Colombia's oldest city (founded in 1525), nestled between the stunning Sienna Nevada de Santa Marta mountains and the Caribbean Sea. Placements are available for both short and long-term volunteers to help provide services (education, psychological assistance, recreation), supplies (food, clothing, items for school and home), and information on nutrition, education, and childcare to families in the area's poorest neighborhoods.
Your contribution to the foundation will largely depend on your interests, skills, time commitment, and ability to speak Spanish. Volunteers are able to help with administration, fundraising, and publicity and/or teach classes and offer counseling to children. This is a very flexible placement and you will be free to make your own work schedule and time frame. This is a great opportunity to become part of a true grassroots organization in South America while enjoying all Colombia's Caribbean coast has to offer.
Highlights
Colombia is the only Latin America country to boast coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean, and as the country's safety record has greatly improved after years of civil conflict it is welcoming more tourists - and volunteers looking to make a difference - than ever before.
This project in Colombia's stunning Northern region will place you with a small grassroots foundation committed to supporting disadvantaged children and families in the area. Foreign and local volunteers are greatly needed to help provide services and assist with the day-to-day administration of this dynamic organization.
