Description
Tanzania is badly affected by the epidemics of poverty and HIV. The number of orphans and street children is growing. Most orphanages lack resources and are under-staffed. These institutions focus primarily on offering formal and informal schooling and a safe place to live and study.
Volunteers generally work with the following activities:
- Help with breakfast and prepare the children for school.
- Volunteers accompany the children to and from school.
- Teach English 3-4 hours a day in the local school.
- Small children (ages 2-6 years) remain in their orphanages
- Volunteers can alsoplay with the children: sports, art, games, picture books, music.
- After dinner help the children wash, brush teeth and take care of themselves.
Living accomodations and meals in our Tanzania progam are provided primarily through pre-selected host families, where you will stay with other volunteers. In certain programs, depending on availability, a volunteer house attached to an orphanage is provided where a few volunteers will live together. Internet and mobile phones are readily available for international communication.
Highlights
At Global Village Volunteer Network (GVVN), our programs are designed to accommodate a wide range of volunteers and different levels of experience, from individuals with no international volunteering experience to those who are seasoned travelers and volunteers. Whether you are looking for a volunteer placement where you will be guided step-by-step or a program that needs initiative from volunteers, we will make sure you are placed in a program that you will get the most out of and are able to contribute to the most.
It is our goal to provide volunteers from all around the world with the most affordable, safe, memorable and fulfilling experience as they help improve the lives of those less fortunate than themselves. Through ongoing research, correspondence and travel to different projects all around the world, we aim to find quality projects that allow volunteers to get involved where they are needed most. Coming from diverse backgrounds and having volunteered internationally many times, we understand the concerns and needs of international volunteers. We are and will continue do everything in our power to ensure a great experience for all our volunteers.
