Description

Volunteer in Eastern Europe -- see Hungary from the inside of the classroom! Hungary has adopted English as the language of commerce, technology and opportunity. You're needed to teach conversational English to Hungary's future leaders! Public schools administrators are our hosts. You'll assist in the day's classroom work using student texts and established lesson plans provided by the teacher. You will also have opportunities to depart from the formal lessons. For example, you can serve as a resource on topics of North American culture, including discussions on history, daily lifestyle, sports, and school systems. American songs, games, dialogues, letter writing, plays, flash cards, and discussions are the primary techniques used depending on the ages and proficiency of the students.

Be sure to pack your creativity and enthusiasm!

Highlights

Teach English under the direction of Hungarian teachers. The mayor, teachers and school administrators in the city of Hodmezovasarhely are anxious for their students to "catch up" with their Western European counterparts in English proficiency. Because Hungarian English teachers speak English as a second, third or perhaps fourth language, they need help from volunteers to teach pronunciation, idioms, and internet terms. Over time, working with several native English speakers for many weeks each year - year after year - the students gain confidence and agility. You can truly make an enormous difference in the lives of Hungarian students, even for just a week or two!

You'll stay in a full-service, comfortable hotel in the city center...near all the area cultural attractions. You'll enjoy authentic Hungarian cuisine in nearby restaurants and at the end of the day, and on the weekend, you can explore the historical and educational sites outside your door!
