Description
You can be THE difference in a child's life! Work with us in an orphanage or boys' home to improve educational and social opportunities for young students. Read books in English, help them with art work, assist teachers with recreational activities, and work on labor projects. This is a great opportunity for students, families and enthusiastic individuals of all ages!
Global Volunteers works very closely with local host partners in Lima on a wide variety of work projects to deliver essential services to children....from infants through teens. We have over 29 years experience managing volunteers and providing direct community development assistance, so your contributions will be maximized through our long-standing partnerships.
Work with healthy, bright "at-risk" children, while immersing yourself in a complex and colorful culture. What's more, a donation from your service program fee is directly invested into the ongoing development program to ensure that your work is continued.
Highlights
Help at-risk children grow and develop. You can often interact with toddlers and pre-schoolers who need you to help them with simple activities:
* arts and craft projects
* outdoor recreation
* reading and singing
* preparing for bedtime
English teaching: You may also be asked to teach English language skills to students in the fifth through 12th grades. Most students have had little English language exposure, but are eager to try in small groups. Any native English speaker can be of service on this project. You are not required to have professional classroom experience.
Assist with Labor and Construction: For volunteers who like to roll up their sleeves to make a difference, several pressing labor projects have been identified for immediate attention. Assignments will be made in the areas of painting, carpentry, window and light installation, gardening and general building maintenance.

Global Volunteers's Mission Statement
Global Volunteers is a private, non-profit (501C-3) tax-exempt organization in consultative status with the United Nations working at the invitation and under the direction of local leaders to deliver the 12 Essential Services to partner communities worldwide. We engage short-term volunteers on long-term development projects to create, nurture and sustain the wellbeing of the world's children - so they can realize the full promise of their human potential. Each year, we mobilize up to 300 teams of volunteers to work alongside local people on work projects central to their advancement. We also raise funds to support our international and domestic partners and to provide sponsorships for educational, social and medical assistance.
