Description

Volunteer in Poland with International Volunteers! Participants work with local non-governmental community centers that supports middle aged and elderly folk. The center primarily runs educational activities such as language courses, seminars, continuing education courses, computer classes etc. Volunteers are needed to help create and lead workshops, especially teaching English (or other languages) and teaching computers.

As one of our volunteers, you're not expected to know Polish: you'll be paired with locals who speak English.

If you wish to work at the youth camp you'll begin your adventure in Krakow, with 2 days of orientation before heading to camp located in or very near the Tatra mountains. Once there, you'll join trained Polish counselors who also work and live at the site. Facilities will be simple but adequate: you'll live in summer resort-type housing (not tents) with meals served cafeteria-style.

The camp operates July through August, with 4 two-week sessions in all. There will be approximately 20 children in each session, divided by age into 2 groups. We are looking to place two volunteers per session - you can sign up for just one two-week session, or the entire two months: it's up to you.

Highlights

Go beyond the ordinary. Poland only recently emerged from beyond the Iron Curtain, joined the European Union and landed on the itinerary for travelers go want to escape the familiar and touristy sites of Western Europe. Here they're discovering old cities, castles, lakes and virgin forests. They explore and party in historic cities of Krakow, Wroclaw and Gdansk that offer hip restaurants and clubs, great live music and a thriving art scene set against the backdrop of cities that date back 600 years.
