Be a Health Volunteer
Location: Nepal: Kathmandu
Program Duration: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks
Description
Share your skills and take a meaningful journey. Qualified volunteers are needed to reach needy people and address their problems in health care. This project of Multi Explorer Nepal is an endeavor to reach the needy and disadvantaged people in Nepal.
The doctor-patient ratio is very poor, with one doctor caring for approximately 16,000 patients-even in cities. The lack of availability of qualified health care workers has resulted in many health problems in Nepal. We receive a lot of requests from local facilities for Internists, Urologists, Surgeons, Oncologists, Ophthalmologists, Nurses, Dentists, and EMT's. You will play a critical role in the villages and towns where you'll serve.
Your role as a Health Volunteer
1. You will be engaged in the health placements by assisting local doctors, nurses, and other medical staff
2. You will also assist in the treatment of patients
3. Examine and treat the patients
4. Treat minor injuries
5. Educate patients on the importance of sanitation, nutrition, etc.
Highlights
A huge number of Nepalese people never receive proper health care in Nepal. The government run health centres established to provide health care to the villagers are very poor in resources and also under staffed. Most of the Nepalese cannot afford to visit doctors as the doctor fees are highly expensive to these poor people. And on top of everything, most of the doctors are stationed in the hospitals of Kathmandu and running their own clinics, many Nepalese are still deprived of health care benefits. The situation in rural areas are even worst in the absence of doctors and other medical staff.
Qualifications
Any volunteer interested in joining our health volunteer program must have proof of certification as a medical student, nurse, doctor, or other medical-related experience. (Note: Volunteers without professional medical credentials are not allowed to work in this program because of risks involved.
