Description

Social Development Institute:

In it what is known as "Mission 2015," Tecnologico de Monterrey's commitment is "To form upright individuals, with high ethical values and humanistic vision, who are committed to their community's development." With this in mind, the Social Development Institute offers you the opportunity to get involved as a volunteer student in Community Social Service. These programs not only help you develop your personal and professional competence, but enable you to serve and act as an agent of social transformation.

Get Closely Involved with the Monterrey Community:

In order to achieve the objectives of Mission 2015, at the Monterrey Campus, we promote your participation in programs and/or projects aimed to solve our country's real problems and needs. In addition, we:

* Systematically develop and coordinate programs and projects that seek to improve the community's well-being.
* Establish alliances with public and private organizations.
* Involve the Tecnologico de Monterrey community in our programs.
* Promote skills, attitudes, values, and knowledge as defined in the Tecnologico de Monterrey's mission.

Through your experiences with the community, you continually learn about leadership, personal advancement, and the planning and organization of events.

Our priority is to have you partner with the academic community and become an important force toward contributing to the present and future development of Mexico. We invite you to volunteer and get involved with the Community Social Service Program. By doing so, you get to know, reflect on, analyze, and participate in this social reality, which hopefully results in giving more meaning to your life.

You may participate on a volunteer project during a spring or fall semester or in the summer session. Keep in mind that, during the semester, you'll need to allocate your time between your volunteer project and classes. During the summer you may choose to combine your project with a Spanish Language course (offered in the morning) or you may volunteer on a full-time basis.

Highlights

Rural and Urban Mexico Programs:

Mexico Rural Program offers a great opportunity to get in contact with the rural areas of Mexico and be able to help in its development one of the 17 different communities in the state of Nuevo Leon. During visits Mexican and International students are able to help with different academic, cultural or human development activities that they prepare for children. During semester and summer periods, the visits to rural communities will be during 3 weekends, staying for one night every weekend.

While Mexico Rural Program works in rural areas Mexico Urbano makes a commitment to reinforce academic and human development processes in elementary school children from Nuevo Leon State Education System (SENL in Spanish) academic programs in the Monterrey Metropolitan area. The activities take place during 9 Saturdays along the semester.
