Description

Home of Hope Children's centre is an orphanage that takes care of both orphans, destitute and vulnerable children.

Location of the Centre
The Orphanage is situated at Milano, Muyeye in Malindi District.

Ms. Sophia Tei is the founder and Director of the Home. In 2007 when she was transferred to work in Malindi she took interest in poor communities especially children. Visiting the areas of Milano and Muyeye and also the beach put a new twist in her life and the idea of putting up the shelter for the poor, orphans and vulnerable children was born. The lifestyle and behaviours/environment in the homesteads of these children was so touching and saddening. There was a breed of different characters/and not so clean languages, most bad characters inherited from single parents and alcoholic families.

The home was put up and started taking in children who would be brought up in a different environment and also do counselling on behaviour changes. The Centre began in October 2009 and is now home to 25 children.

The home has 4 staff together with my 2 daughters, Linda and Maria who are full time volunteers. Maria is a trained social worker and has been very supportive to this project.

Objectives

- To integrate orphans and OVC care with other services e.g. comprehensive care for those children infected with HIV.
- To link care and prevention for orphans and other vulnerable children who are at risk of HIV infection due to economic hardship and loss of parental care.
- To promote self reliance in the child by providing training and experiences that will help them excel in life.
- To build the Child's social responsibility so that they may give back to the community and make the world a better place.
- To strive to become an independent and self sustaining entity.

What we Offer

We are offering basic necessities in life i.e food, shelter, clothing, education. We have a pre-unit, baby class, KG1, 2, 3. Some children go to other schools which to us is a big worry. We desire to put up a school in order to monitor the movements of these children when we get donors to fund our school project.

Funding

The home relies solely on the benevolence and generosity of individual, well wishers and good samaritans for its survival. Any help (in cash or in kind) is highly appreciated. Clothing, beddings, food, educational materials etc.
