International Volunteer Program

Description
Depending on participant's skills and interests, volunteers at the orphanages can teach English, lead the children in songs, music, dance, sport or other activities, teach cooking or handicrafts, act as a mentor, and generally just spend quality time with the orphan and street children. The locations are in both rural and urban areas.
Highlights
The project is located in Kiev, Lviv, Simferopol and Cherkasy areas of Ukraine.
- Participants will be personally met at the airport and get to the host families by car or shuttle bus.
- Participants will be staying with friendly host families. The houses and the apartments are cozy, comfortable and of a good standard.
- Participants will have their own room and shared bathroom amenities.
- At least one person in the family will speak a bit of English.
- Host family will provide with breakfast and dinner.
- Participants can get the orphanages from their homes by public buses (20 - 30 minutes). Orientation will be provided on the next day after arrival.
For stays of 90 days or less, participants will not require a visa as long as they are a national of one of the following; European Union countries, UK, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, USA, Canada, Japan, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Vatican, Monaco, Iceland, Norway, San Marino.

Ukrainian Humanitarian Initiative's Mission Statement
The Ukrainian Humanitarian Initiative (UHI), is a voluntary, not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children living in orphanages in Ukraine, the third largest country in Eastern Europe. The purpose and mission of UHI centers on providing immediate aid to those most vulnerable in Ukraine. The difficulties in the economy prevents adequate funding for basics such as food, clothing, medical and dental care and schooling.
