Description
Our trade mark program Volunteer in India provides an unique program to work and help the Tibetan refuges who have taken refuge in India after leaving their home country, Tibet. Following in the footsteps of the 14th Dalai Lama more than 150,000 Tibetan refugees have fled to India during the past 50 years. He left with his initial entourage in 1959, following an abortive uprising of disputed motivations. He was followed by about 80,000 Tibetan refugee.
Tibetan govt has step their headquarters in the City of Dharamsala where currently HH The 14th Dalai resides. Refugees still continue to come to India following their spiritual leader in search for a better life. Refugees from Tibet arrive in Dharamsala at the rate of about 8000 per year but with limited scope and exposure to the modern world, they face problems in adapting, finding jobs. Our program is aimed at helping the local refugee Tibetan community which are on exile from their home country. Volunteers help with teaching English, computers, vocational skills etc. Apart form group classes volunteer also take one-on-one conversational classes.
Volunteers not only help the local refugee community with life skills but at the same time get a hands on experience of the Tibetan culture, their spiritual and cultural traditions, problems and the struggle for freedom.
