Nepali Culture Study Program
Location: Nepal: Kathmandu, Pokhara
Program Duration: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months (includes high school academic semester abroad)
Description
In this program, interns/volunteers live with different ethnic communities during their program period and learn about the culture, lifestyle, language, (diverse religious) festivals and people of Nepal.
For the first few weeks they live with a Nepali family in an urban setting and gain experience of city life. After staying in the city, the participants are placed in a small, rural village for the remaining duration of their stay. This provides the volunteers with an excellent opportunity to learn about all facets of Nepali culture, lifestyle, language, food and people, both modern and more traditional.
Volunteers should remember that this is a cultural exchange and that an effort to offer some knowledge of their own culture and customs to the family with whom they live is appreciated.
Highlights
Internship Nepal believes that internships provide the best way for people to become aware about their future career. Learning by doing and being exposed to professionals working in the field provides valuable experience, a professional reference, which often leads to a position, upon graduation. The relevance of such a program to students is manifold.
Active learning by participants, inclusion of disciplined reflection about individual goals, inter-cultural competence, and personal attention from Internship Nepal's staff are at the heart of INs mission. Originally, this program was launched in November 2005.
IN is also involved in supporting some of the most underprivileged children of the country, in an effort to improve their education and development at the grassroots level, by awarding scholarships for primary and secondary education and strengthening community organizational capabilities.
Internship Nepal provides a great opportunity to interns and volunteers from around the world to visit Nepal, help Nepalese communities to support different activities, to gain cultural experiences, knowledge about Nepalese society, history and much more. It also provides opportunity to volunteers for conducting research works. IN has many urban and rural locations in Nepal where it can place volunteers from one month to five months.
